About us
Community is at the heart of what we do. We believe that investing in people and the quality of their experiences is the key to a healthy, diverse and progressive sport. Whether you’re looking for local trail knowledge, a sweet new ride or some help fixing up what you’ve already got, we’ve got your back.
While we tend to lean towards mountain and gravel bikes designed to ride on dirt, we’re passionate multi-discipline cyclists happy to share knowledge and work on all kinds of bicycles. We carry e-bikes, mountain bikes, gravel bikes, commuters and kids’ bikes.
Our Team

Grant Lestock-Kay
Owner - First exposed to mountain biking through a middle school bike club, Grant's interest in bikes quickly evolved into a full-blown obsession. Grant started working at Cowichan Cycles in 2011 as a bike builder and slowly transitioned into his role as a mechanic. In 2016 Grant purchased Cowichan Cycles from the original owner Robin, and continues to run it today.

Doug Mcqueen
Workshop Manager - Doug is a bike industry veteran and his knowledge is immediately apparent when he begins chatting bikes. Doug’s official role is our workshop manager but is more than happy to find himself helping with guidance on the sales floor. Doug’s bike knowledge is vast but we have noticed him come to life particularly when getting in to the intricacies of suspension and wheel builds.

Bill Steele
Service Writer - Bill was the first of Grant's hires at Cowichan Cycles and has come and gone throughout the years, one foot always in the door. Today, Bill works as our service writer, helps with general organization, and provides a wealth of mechanical knowledge, all to keep us moving efficiently. Outside of the shop, Bill enjoys riding his plethora of unique/funky bikes, spending time with his family, and exploring the backroads of the island.

Rob Wilson
Rob is a longtime friend of Grant’s and began riding bikes alongside him when the two were in middle school. After a decade-long riding hiatus, Rob joined the Cowichan Cycles team to accelerate the shop in the media and digital space, as well as help out front-of-house and with receiving. Outside of Cowichan Cycles, Rob is a creative working in the photography and videography field, focusing on adventure lifestyle content and the occasional wedding. Aside from mountain biking, Rob enjoys camping, motorcycling, and surfing.

Ava Morgan
Ava has been a member of the Cowichan Cycles team on and off for a few years in a variety of roles, starting in the gone but not forgotten Wheelbase Cafe. These days, Ava serves as our RideWrap installation wizard, as well as supporting the rest of the shop as a jack-of-all-trades helping with front-of-house, bike assembly, and whatever else we can throw at her. Beyond the shop, Ava enjoys hiking and surfing, and even occasionally mountain biking. Â

Kyson Stevenson
Our resident shop grom, Kyson works Saturdays on the sales floor with his exceeding charisma and love of chatting all things bikes. Kyson joined the Cowichan Cycles ecosystem through being a member of the race team, and when he’s not working in the shop or at school, he’s typically shredding laps at Prevost. Aside from biking, Kyson loves anything with wheels, as well as trail-building.

Brendan Gauthier
Brendan works with us a day or two a week helping wrench in the back. Tightly embedded in the Valley's local downhill and trail-building scene, Brendan is a valuable community and mechanical resource. When not in the shop, Brendan can be found working with the Cowichan Trail Stewardship Society or ripping laps at Prevost.

Jeffery Wan
Jeffery joined the Cowichan Cycles team in the spring of 2025 to fill a vacant mechanic's stand and has been killing it ever since. Jeffery started working with bikes originally in Hong Kong where he focused on high-end road bikes. Here in B.C., Jeffery is becoming more familiar with the mountain biking side of things and is a great addition to the team. Being new to the Cowichan Valley, Jeffery spends much of his free time exploring local hiking trails.
