Oval chainrings are designed to more effectively translate the rider's mechanical power into forward momentum when in the optimal part of the pedal stroke, while simultaneously making pedaling easier when in the non-optimal part of the pedal stroke. 

The High-Pivot version is specifically designed for compatibility with High-Pivot bikes such as Forbidden bikes.
